Interactions

Program director (Dr. Jian Cao) presents NSF Guidelines for CAREER proposals
- Four
to five recent CAREER awardees present their stories and share their experiences
- Questions
and answers
- Working
dinner (The dinner will be of reception type. Participants can freely walk around to talk
to others, asking more questions, sharing what they have learned, etc.)
Saturday Evening: Mock Proposal Review
- Each
participant will be given a package that a CAREER proposal reviewer will receive,
including review guidance, review forms, and several proposals (including both successful
and unsuccessful CAREER proposals previously submitted by CAREER awardees)
- Participants
review these proposals (giving ratings and comments)
Sunday Morning (8:00am - 12:00 noon): Mock Panel Review Meeting
and Brainstorming
- NSF
Program director describes procedures for a typical CAREER proposal panel meeting
- A
mock panel review meeting will be held for those proposals that the participants read
Saturday evening
- Present
and discuss the original reviewers comments and ratings on these proposals
- In
small groups of 4-5 people, list characteristics of successful CAREER proposals
- As
one big group, summarize these characteristics
