Women
Mentoring Women first began in 1999 by a generous grant from
Cargill. The program focuses on supporting freshmen women
in engineering as they begin their university experience in
a demanding curriculum. Freshmen women are paired with
upperclass-women mentors who are in the same program.
The Mentors offer advice, answer questions, and provide whatever
support they can throughout the academic year. The program
also provides monthly opportunities for all the participants
to get together in a social gathering, doing everything from
ceramics lessons to a semi-formal dinner with the deans of the
College of Engineering. Women Mentoring Women also offers
students a chance to meet industry representatives and explore
the different areas and career choices that engineering encompasses.
