Welcome!

Kansas State University's Tilford Group Virtual Center for Multicultural Competency Development's site offers faculty and staff a variety of resources that promote teaching, learning, living and working in a diverse world. These materials are designed both for those in the early stages of their diversity journey as well as those who have a long history of involvement in the university's diversity work.

Tips for Faculty and Staff

The materials on this site are based on the Tilford Group multicultural competencies and subsequent research. We understand that working with issues of diversity is complex, challenging, and requires time and support to produce positive, useful results. Here are a few suggestions as you begin to use the site:

  • The navigation bar at the left will lead you to the materials and resources. Please take a minute to explore the possibilities.

  • The site offers a wide range of strategies and information to apply in your classrooms. Keep in mind that the activities for students on this site are designed to be facilitated by faculty members.

  • We recommend that you help your students begin their personal multicultural journeys in the "Identity Development" section under Resources for Educators.

Our thanks to Larry Jackson, Larry Havenstein and Neal Wollenberg from Communications and Agricultural Education for their ideas, original design and technical support; and to Juanita McGowan, former director of American Ethnic Studies and the Tilford Group, Carol Russell and Phillip Marzluf in English, and Doug Benson in Modern Languages for their work in designing content in the early versions of this web site in 2008-2011. We also wish to acknowledge the work of former Graduate Assistant Chelsea (Cox) Funk in Modern Languages, and current Graduate Research Assistant Mónica E. Vaca Cárdenas in the Teaching & Learning Center.

Julie Fosberg and her staff in The Division of Communications and Marketing were instrumental in the migration of the old site to the Teaching and Learning Center, and the TLC director Dr. Jana Fallin has been most generous in offering support for the Tilford website update.  The new banner design was done by Ambrosia Cooper in Communications and Marketing.
