Professor Bemiller's areas of interest include the sociology of deviant behavior, criminology, sociology of gender, and sociology of the family. Professor Bemiller's research has examined men's participation in a "deviant" sport (i.e. cheerleading) and power imbalances between men and women in relationships. Currently, Professor Bemiller is completing research that examines nontraditional mothers' (e.g., incarcerated mothers, noncustodial mothers) experiences with motherhood. She is also researching sexual assault and domestic violence shelter workers' experiences with occupational burnout in the state of Kansas . Professor Bemiller has had research articles and book reviews published in the Journal of Family Issues, Sociological Focus, Sociology Compass, Gender & Society, Contemporary Sociology and the Criminal Justice Review. She is a member of the American Sociological Association, the American Society of Criminology, and Sociologists for Women in Society. Dr. Bemiller presents her research at academi
c conferences nationwide and serves as a reviewer for a number of academic journals.
