Lauren Ritterbush


Lauren W. Ritterbush , Associate Professor, is an archaeologist and ethnohistorian who specializes in the Great Plains and neighboring Midwest . Her recent research focuses on late prehistoric migration, contact and interaction among diverse peoples across the Plains and beyond. She has conducted ethnohistoric research of indigenous migrants during the early fur trade period. Other regions in which she has worked include the American Southwest and Central Europe . Her research has been funded by grants from the Smithsonian Institution, National Science Foundation, Nebraska State Historical Society, National Park Service, Kansas Humanities Council, and Sigma Xi. As an educator and mentor, Dr. Ritterbush is highly regarded. She regularly teaches introductory archaeology and world prehistory, critical thinking in archaeology, and advanced courses in North American and European archaeology, ethnohistory of the Northern Plains, and archaeological methods. Recent educational endeavors include facilitating training in content knowledge in the social sciences for K-12 teachers.
