Born and raised in The Netherlands, Dr. Prins was trained in anthropology, archaeology, comparative history, and filmmaking. He has done extensive fieldwork among indigenous peoples in South and North America, and teaches courses in Cultural Anthropology, Theory, Ethnographic Film, Native Rights, and Indigenous North and South America. An advocacy anthropologist whose scholarship is tied to human rights, he served as expert witness in the US Senate and Canadian courts. A multiple award-winning scholar, he is recognized for outstanding teaching, research and academic leadership, and authored or co-authored over a hundred scholarly publications in six languages, including several books and documentary films. A regular peer reviewer for many academic presses, international journals, and scholarly foundations, he serves on several editorial boards and has advised and consulted for tribal nations, the Smithsonian, National Park Service, and many other institutions. In 2006, the Carnegie Foundation selected him as
Kansas Professor of the Year.
