Requirements for a Major in Anthropology


In addition to the general B.A. or B.S. requirements, anthropology majors take a minimum of 27 hours in anthropology as follows:

Introductions to the four areas: 12 Credit Hrs.
ANTH 200 / 204 Introduction to Cultural Anthropology
ANTH 220 Introduction to Linguistic Anthropology
ANTH 260 Introduction to Archeology
ANTH 280 Introduction to Physical Anthropology

Advanced courses: 15 Credit Hrs.
Four advanced electives (500 level or above) in at least three of the subfields (12 Hrs.)
ANTH 602 Anthropological Theory (3 Credit Hrs.)

Total Credit Hours Required: 27

Requirements for a Minor

A minor in anthropology is also available. Anthropology minors must take a minimum of 18 hours in anthropology as follows:

Any 3 of the introductory classes: 9 Credit Hrs.
ANTH 200 / 204 Introduction to Cultural Anthropology
ANTH 220 Introduction to Linguistic Anthropology
ANTH 260 Introduction to Archeology
ANTH 280 Introduction to Physical Anthropology

Advanced courses: 9 Credit Hrs.
Three advanced electives (500 level or above) in at least two of the subfields (9 Hrs.)

Total Credit Hours Required: 18
