KSU Employee Suggestion Application Form
To encourage and reward employee input, the State of Kansas created the Employee Suggestion Award Program in 1986. Kansas State University is pleased to be a participant in that program.
Acceptable employee suggestions include those that will: a) reduce costs, duplication, time, waste, or accidents; b) increase productivity or job interest; c) improve services, job performance, public relations, or employee morale; d) simplify procedures, methods, forms, tools, or organizations; or e) conserve human resources, material, money, energy, or natural resources.
The Kansas State University Employee Suggestion Application Form should be completed and submitted to the Chair, Employee Suggestion Award Committee, Department of Employee Relations and Training, 103 Edwards Hall, C-104, Manhattan, Kansas 66506. No approval is needed to submit a suggestion.
Each suggestion will then be transmitted by the chair to the Employee Suggestion Award Committee for review. The suggestor's name will not be disclosed while the suggestion is being considered.
The Employee Suggestion Committee will evaluate the suggestion submitted. After reviewing all the information provided, the Committee will decide whether or not to adopt a suggestion. The employee is sent a written explanation from the Employee Award Board when a suggestion is not adopted telling the employee what action was taken and why.
The KSU Employee Suggestion Committee includes three classified members and three unclassified members who are appointed for two-year terms. The committee is chaired by a staff member from Employee Relations and Training.
Almost all state employees and retirees shall be eligible to receive cash awards. Generally, employees not allowed to participate are senior state officers in unclassified positions and members of K-State's Employee Suggestion Committee.
An award for an adopted suggestion may be a) a certificate of merit, or b) a certificate of merit plus a cash payment.
The type of award and the cash amount, if any, for suggestions with no cost savings will be determined by the Committee.
If a suggestion represents monetary savings to Kansas State University, the person submitting the suggestion may be awarded up to 10 per cent of the first year's estimated savings. It is the responsibility of the person submitting the suggestion to estimate the first year's savings and to explain how the estimate was obtained. The maximum award is $5,000 net and the minimum is $25 net.
Once an award is granted and accepted, the suggestion shall be considered the property of the Kansas State University.
Questions about K-State's Employee Suggestion Award Program or any suggestions that have been submitted should be directed to the Chair, Employee Suggestion Award Committee, Department of Employee Relations and Training 103 Edwards Hall, C-104, Manhattan, Kansas 66506 (785) 532-6818.
