The exam below is simply a sample test, portions of which were given to students in 1995. This sample exam is not meant to be all inclusive. Rather, it should be used only to give you an idea of how I design many of my exams. Be sure that not all information in the course is contained within the body of this sample exam.

  5. About 60 miles south of the Arizona border, on the Gulf of California, is a small Mexican village (not on the map) called Cholla Bay. It is composed, in part, of Americans who, for one reason or another, have chosen to exit the US and remain obscure. There is a bar there called J.J.'s, and you can sit for hours on the patio overlooking a large estuary imbibing pitchers of Margaritas. Within the estuary are millions of snails, and resident populations of invertebrates, birds, fish, etc. You crack open some of the snails and find numerous sporocysts, and also rediae that are producing numerous furcocercous cercariae. Based on your knowledge of trematode life cycles, propose a HYPOTHETICAL (but very logical) life cycle for this trematode (10 points).




  6. Within the cestodes are multiple, distinct types of attachment organs on the scolex. List four distinct types and tell how you can distinguish each from the others (2 point each, 8 points total).
