The photograph on the left is of an acid fast stained
fecal smear. Within that smear were a low number of spherical blobs of
reddish cytoplasm. The patient complained of diarrhea and abdominal
cramping, which started a little over a week after visiting Peru.
Each reddish blob measured about 7-8 micrometers in diameter. What species
is represented?
