COURSES OF STUDY

Here at Kansas State University, we are very proud of our jazz offerings and we think you’ll be impressed.

Come and join the jazz experience!

There are many excellent opportunities for students to participate in jazz activities here at Kansas State University. Students can choose from three different levels of large ensembles, ranging from beginner to advanced levels of performance. In addition, there are a wide variety of combo groups that students can join, for those who prefer a smaller setting.

Within our jazz offerings, students will experience a wide variety of big band and combo literature, including cool, swing, hard bop, bossa, Latin, samba, funk/rock, and other styles. Students who participate will sharpen their skills in areas related to teaching and performance. Members of our ensembles perform regularly on campus to large and enthusiastic crowds throughout the season.

We also offer beginning and advanced levels of improvisation courses for those who are interested in developing their improvisation skills for their performances in the ensembles, combos, or private study. Students will investigate all areas of jazz improvisation, and learn to incorporate sophisticated principles of jazz improvisation into their performance.
