GENERAL INFORMATION
PRIOR TO COMPLETING THE APPLICATION
Before making application, please read the following directions. Then, obtain information about the graduate program that is of interest to you, either by requesting information from the program or by accessing information on our Web site under Graduate Programs. There will be other information and requirements of which you should be aware before you apply.
ALL INFORMATION AND CREDENTIALS SUBMITTED IN CONJUNCTION WITH THIS APPLICATION BECOME THE PROPERTY OF KANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY AND WILL NOT BE RETURNED.
IN ADDITION TO THE APPLICATION
Submit the following directly to the department/program to which you are applying. Additional materials may also be required.
- APPLICATION FEE: To be considered for graduate admission, you must pay a $55.00 U.S. application fee. Your application may not be processed by the graduate program you are applying without this fee.
There are three options for paying you application fee:

Personal check of $55.00 (drawn on a U.S. bank) made payable to Kansas State University Graduate School.

Money order or cashier's check for $55.00 U.S. made payable to Kansas State University Graduate School.

On-line credit card payment: click here. Please record your receipt number and maintain a copy for your records.
**PLEASE NOTE: Some programs may require an additional application fee. If applying to graduate programs in the College of Architecture or the College of Business, additional application fees apply. Refer to program websites for more information.
- TRANSCRIPTS: You should request each college or university where you received your bachelor's degree or completed any advanced course work or degree to send an OFFICIAL transcript directly to the department/program to which you are applying. This transcript must document your bachelor's and/or advanced degrees. If you have not yet graduated, you will be asked for another updated transcript later. A translation by an appropriate authority must also be provided for any transcripts that are not in English. Failure to list on the application any colleges or universities attended may result in dismissal from the University.
- STATEMENT OF OBJECTIVES: A statement of objectives, giving specific reasons for the selection of your field of study, contemplated research areas, and professional plans, should also be submitted with the application.
- LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION: The names of three instructors whom you have asked to submit letters regarding your qualifications for graduate study should be included on the application. These letters must be received by the department/program before an application is considered complete.
- AFFIDAVIT OF FINANCIAL SUPPORT: Each application must be accompanied
by the Affidavit of Financial Support form, (Available in [WORD] or [PDF] using the Adobe Acrobat Reader), verifying that financial support is available while attending Kansas
State University. Depending on the source of support, $29,850 per year
is required for tuition, books, subsistence, and other necessary costs.
Please print this form, secure the necessary signatures, and return
it with the confirmation receipt and application fee. (Students must
document $29,850 per year.)
- STANDARDIZED TESTS: If your graduate program requires standardized tests, you should request the Educational Testing Service to send your scores to Kansas State University. If you indicated where you wanted your scores sent (the academic department and Kansas State University) when you took the test, your scores will automatically be sent. The Graduate School does not accept photocopies as official for admission purposes. Standardized tests scores are valid for five years. (If available, please include test scores in the application.)

PRIMARY LANGUAGE: To demonstrate competence in the English language, an official report of scores on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System - academic exam (IELTS) must be sent to Kansas State University for all applicants whose primary language is not English.
TOEFL: The TOEFL is offered several times a year throughout the world by the Educational Testing Service, PO Box 6151, Princeton, New Jersey 08540, USA, telephone 609-771-7100 or www.toefl.org. Those who have received a degree in the last two years from a United States college or university are not required to submit a TOEFL score but must take an English proficiency test upon arrival to Kansas State University.
There are three types of TOEFL scores: paper-based TOEFL, computer-based TOEFL and TOEFL IBT (internet-based TOEFL taken in real time). TOEFL scores are valid for two years from the intial test date.
A score of at least 550 (paper-based test), 213 (computer-based test), or 79 (IBT - internet-based test) on the TOEFL is required to be considered for admission to the Graduate School. (NOTE: Some programs require a TOEFL score higher than stated here.) Applicants with scores of 600 (paper-based), 250 (computer-based) or 100 (IBT - internet based) or above may be considered for regular admission. Applicants with scores between 550/213/79 and 599/249/99 may be admitted provisionally and must at the time of their enrollment demonstrate proficiency in reading and writing English and in understanding spoken American English to the satisfaction of the Graduate School. Those who do not meet the minimum proficiency standard will be required to complete specified courses offered by the English Language Program (ELP) at Kansas State. Intensive English training for students who have TOEFL scores below 550/213/79 is also available through the ELP. IELTS: The International English Language Testing System - academic exam (IELTS) is offered several times a year by the International English Language Testing System, Pasadena, California 91103, USA. Those who have received a degree in the last two years from a United States college or university are not required to submit an IELTS score but must take an English proficiency test upon arrival to Kansas State University.
A score of at least 6.1 is required to be considered for admission to the Graduate School. (NOTE: Some programs require an IELTS score higher than stated here.) Applicants with scores of 7.0 or above may be considered for regular admission. Applicants with scores between 6.1 to 6.9 may be admitted provisionally and must at the time of their enrollment demonstrate proficiency in reading and writing English and in understanding spoken American English to the satisfaction of the Graduate School. Those who do not meet the minimum proficiency standard will be required to complete specified courses offered by the English Language Program (ELP) at Kansas State. Intensive English training for students who have IELTS scores below 6.1 is also available through the ELP. CHECKLIST
The following is a summary of the actions necessary for an application and all documents to be submitted:
- Obtain information concerning graduate program of interest either by personal contact, by mail, or on our Web site under Graduate Programs .
- Take standardized tests if required and have scores sent to Kansas State University.
- Contact colleges and universities you have attended to send official transcripts to department/program where applying.
- Ask references to send letters of recommendation.
- Prepare Statement of Objectives.
- Complete Affidavit of Financial Support.
- Submit a money order, cashier's check, personal check or credit card payment for $55.00 U.S. Credit card payment available at the time you submit your online application.
- Send the following with the application to the program where admission is requested:
- The signed Affidavit of Financial Support
- A money order or cashier's check for $55.00.
- The Statement of Objectives
An application cannot be processed without these documents.
SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION
All application materials should be sent directly to the department/program to which you are applying. However, the official notification of your acceptance into graduate study at Kansas State University will be sent by the Graduate School.
