Two programs at K-State offer exceptional opportunities for otherwise underrepresented groups of students to gain mentoring and research experience, as well as prepare for advanced degree programs.
DSP selects historically underrepresented (students of color and/or first-generation students) undergraduate students to work as research assistants for K-State faculty engaged in scholarly activities. The aim of DSP is to foster active participation of students, alongside a faculty mentor, in the discovery and creation of new knowledge at KSU. The program targets first and second year students as well as transfer students.
The McNair Scholars Program, located in Holton Hall 201, is a comprehensive program structured to prepare undergraduates for successful careers as graduate students, professors, and professional researchers. This preparation is offered in the form of classes, colloquia, advising, tutoring, faculty mentoring, and the completion of a Summer Research Internship. McNair scholars are typically sophomores or juniors.
