Saskatoon, Saskatchewan -- K-State Center for Engagement and Community Development staff and Institute for Civic Discourse and Democracy representatives David Procter and Dan Kahl hosted an international workshop in Saskatoon this June on the topic of "Facilitating Public Issues Forums".

The day-long workshop engaged participants in framing, understanding, and planning techniques for facilitating public conversations around important community topics.

"If you can change the conversation, you can change society," said Dan Kahl, Extension Liaison with the Center.

The workshop was a pre-conference offering preceding the Community Development Society conference that carried the theme "Conversation, Collaboration and Democracy - Creative Community Engagement".

Procter and Kahl represented K-State at the conference for both the Center for Engagement and the Institute for Civic Discourse and Democracy, or ICDD. ICDD works to enhance democratization locally, nationally, and internationally through improved community deliberation, facilitation and evaluation practices, development of a certified facilitator training program, and interdisciplinary research on models of civic discourse.

Procter and Kahl also presented a panel presentation on the Institute for Civic Discourse and Democracy while at the conference.
